Sermon Passage: Romans 8:14-17 Sermon Title: Spirit of Adoption Sermon by: Pastor Davy (Youth) Sermon Summary: When Jesus was on the Cross, he called out to God by “elohi, elohi”. This word Elohi is the vocative form of the word Elohim which is a common word people used to address God. So there is a contrast when Paul says in Romans 8 that we can call out to God by “Abba, Father”. When Jesus was on the cross, facing the full wrath of God, he was abandoned by God. And his language, “elohi” reflects this fact. “Abba” is the word for father in Aramaic and this is the word that Jesus himself used to call out to his Father before the cross. and through this change in language, we see that Jesus took on a change of status so that we may be adopted into the family of God. When Jesus’ status changed and he died in the place of sinner, our status was then able to be changed from a sinner to a child of God. And through our faith in God, we are now adopted as his son. Forever able to enjoy and glory him with our lives on earth and our eternal life in heaven. We are adopted into God’s family and we live in this future hope that we will one day be united with him in heaven. that we have an amazing future ahead of us. So we suffer with Christ so that we may also be glorified with him.
