7 Youth group students and 2 leaders spent 6 days in Camden, NJ with UrbanPromise helping out at their summer camp, sharing the gospel through our words and actions to the underprivileged children of the city of Camden.
It was an eye-opening and challenging week for the students as they were pushed to the edge of their sphere of comfort while meeting, serving and living with strangers for a whole week.
The cultural boundary seemed so large at the beginning of the week but by the end of the week, what was even more evident was the love of God which transcends all boundaries and brings his children together through the language of love and grace.
The missions team had three prayer requests prior to the trip:
Spiritual Growth - We hoped and prayed that God would take us deeper into his love and reveal more of himself to us. And through our worship every night and sharing of highlights from our days, it was evident that God was revealing more of his love and a glimpse of his Kingdom to every individual on our team. We saw that there is more to life and a deeper meaning to community that we have not yet fully realized.
Team Unity - As a youth group, we thought and believed that we were close and we had known enough of each other but our prayer was that God would deepen our conversations and strengthen our relationships. And through living together, facing fatigue and hardships together, we were able to love each other more. We were able to understand each others struggles and support each other in times of need. And it encourages us that there is more to love and more to learn about each other.
Through this missions trip, we saw that Christ wants more of us and that are in desperate need of him. And above all, we realized that we need him here at home just as we needed him there in the missions field and we are encouraged more than ever to pursue harder after him.
